Winter Events

The Festival of Trees is one of the highlights of the holiday season. Port Huron Hospital raises funds through a display of Christmas trees and decorations in the McMorran complex on 12/3-4. Come down and enjoy the afternoon wandering through a virtual decorated forest, and best of all it's indoors. In late January you can enjoy the annual Chilly Fest - including snow mobile races, dog sled demonstrations, Chelli's Chilli and more. Great outdoor fun with plenty of places to warm up with a bowl of Chili or a hot meal. Another unique experience found only in the BlueWater Area.

McMorran Complex

McMorran becomes a center place of events thoughout the winter months. The complex includes two ice arenas, and a large theatre. Movies and theatrical prductions take place all winter long in the theatre portion, along with concerts and other events. You can check the McMorran website for theatre events as they become scheduled. The Port Huron Civic Theatre aften uses the theatre for their productions too, which are always enjoyable.

The ice arenas host a number of events throughout the winter, ranging from hockey games to open skating to large concerts with popular artists ranging from rock bands to famous comedians. Ron White sold out a couple shows this past winter and the names keep getting bigger. Hockey events range from the professional NAHL Fighting Falcons Hockey to the amateur tournaments that have become famous here. Every year teams from around the state and into Canada compete in the Silversticks throughout January and February, where sometimes both arenas have games going on at the same time. While these events are not taking place the arenas offer open skating and specific times for 'pick-up' hockey games where anyone can show up and play for fun.

Other Winter Fun

McMorran isn't the only place to have fun; there is ice skating available indoors at Glacier Pointe Ice Complex and there are numerous outdoor skating throughout the area where you can relax and enjoy the fresh air. Roller skating is available too for those who worry about the ice.

The outdoor trails lend themselves to cross country skiing through the winter and the sledding for the kids is always another fun way to spend the weekend. Township Parks open the hills for the kids to sled down freely, and St Clair has a registered sledding hill designed and built for safety at the East China Township Park on Recor Rd. The fishing doesn't stop in winter either; once the water has froze the ice fishing draws visitors from all over to enjoy the ice-fishing shantytowns across the area. Ice racing and snowmobile racing events take place throughout the region and fun is all around.

Bundle up and have some fun in the winter in the Port Huron area.
